Fit with Current Lark Brands
Respondents had difficulty in fitting in the product with the current Lark brands. This was because:
- Many had difficulty in determining how the feminine imagery of the rounded-edge pack fit in with the masculine imagery of the current Lark brands
- The name «Special Milds» was variously interpreted to mean 1) the product was lighter than/lower in tar and nicotine than Lark Milds, or 2) the name implied a flavor variation of Lark Milds» - in other words, an upgraded version of Lark Milds. In the former case, respondents were also unsure whether «Special Milds» would fall in between Lark Milds and Lark Super Lights in terms of lightness, or whether the two products would be roughly the same in terms of lightness. In the latter case, respondents seemed to feel that Lark Special Milds and Lark Milds would be roughly on a par in terms of lightness, but that Lark Special Milds would have a different or perhaps fuller flavor than Lark Milds.
The majority tended to position this product between Lark Milds and Lark Super Lights in terms of lightness. Again, however, some interpreted «Special Milds» to mean a special version of Lark Milds in terms of taste.
