Respondents evaluated the Lucky Strike package positively mainly because of its color scheme balance and sophisticated appearance. However, Marlboro Red smokers tended not to evaluate the Lucky Strike package that positively, in contrast to Lucky Strike smokers, who did not evaluate the Marlboro Red package positively.
The Lucky Strike package had in common with Marlboro Red impressions that it was sophisticated/stands out/masculine. Impressions which differed from those of the Marlboro Red package were that while people liked the Marlboro Red package mainly because of its color, the Lucky Strike package was liked because of its color scheme and because it conveyed a 'cute' impression.
Lucky Strike smokers liked the package quite a bit. They felt that there was too much red in the Marlboro Red package but that the distribution of the red color on the Lucky Strike package was good, that it did not look too strong, and that it had a masculine look. They also liked the details, like the illustration of the Indian's face on the side of the package, which they felt was both wild and cute, and the fact that the name 'Lucky Strike' was printed on each cigarette, which they found fancy/cute.
