a. Smoking of Lucky Strike
About half the Lucky Strike smokers had been smoking mainly this brand for more than two years, and the remainder had been smoking it for a year or more.
Many smokers of other brands had smoked Lucky Strike at some time as well.
Most Lucky Strike smokers smoked one pack (20 cigarettes) a day.
b. Taste/quality
Respondents generally felt that Lucky Strike's taste was strong but not bitter. Some domestic brand smokers tended to have negative perceptions that it was too strong. Lucky Strike was evaluated as a strong cigarette, but unlike Marlboro Red, respondents did not feel that it was high in tar/nicotine (it is actually not as high in tar/nicotine as Marlboro Red).

Marlboro Lights smokers tended to evaluate Lucky Strike's taste relatively positively.
Like Marlboro Red, some Lucky Strike smokers chose Lucky Strike for its taste while others chose it for its image.
Again like Marlboro Red, Lucky Strike smokers like its brown filter because it doesn't stick to the lips/the hard feel is pleasant/it 'looks good'.
Because of adverse rumors that Lucky Strike contains highly carcinogenic substances/ingredients that are harmful to health/that sales of Lucky Strike have already been banned in the USA, respondents tended to distrust the quality of this brand. This rumor also had the effect of drawing out underlying worries that perhaps foreign brands contain harmful substances. Lucky Strike smokers were also aware of this rumor, but many people already knew that smoking was not good for health and that it was better not to smoke at all if they wanted to be careful of their health. This was a similar attitude to the Marlboro Red smokers' that they were not concerned about a high tar/nicotine content.
